The Yaris Cross is Toyota's second European model based on the smallest version of the company's New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform. Most crucially, because every version of the platform is built for electrification, Toyota will be able to offer the Yaris Cross with a hybrid powertrain from the start.

Toyota claims the new powertrain offers high fuel economy and low emissions, but has only released preliminary CO2 statistics.

Although the Yaris Cross is only 6mm shorter than the Ford Puma, its wheelbase is 28mm shorter. It's 45mm longer overall and has a 30mm larger wheelbase than the Nissan Juke. The Cross has the same wheelbase as the Yaris supermini, but it's 240mm longer and 90mm higher. With 30mm more ground clearance, we'd expect plenty of additional headroom on the interior.
