Labradorite takes its name from the Labrador Coast in eastern Canada. Most labradorite production takes place in Canada, both on the Labrador Coast and in Newfoundland. Long before Europeans discovered labradorite in Canada, the habitants of the Labrador region had believed the stone to hold metaphysical properties and used it in a powdered form to heal their sicknesses.
